Alleged Harasser Inquired: 'But Imagine I Am Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly deposited her a voicemail message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has consistently asserted she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial charged with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February 2025.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most widely reported child disappearance cases and is still open.
'I Do Not Need Money'
A separate phone message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's answerphone stated: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? Then what? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the recording stated.
The tribunal was advised that by means of electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the data, advised the court there "seemed to lack any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."
The court heard the co-defendant established a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in last December.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had reached out using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period before the trip to that location, that area, in last December.
The court heard message exchanges between the two accused, in that autumn, considering attempting to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from utensils at a dining venue.
"We need to make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the trip to their home, the defendant dispatched a message which expressed: "We find ourselves positioned near the McCanns' house with our lights out similar to investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with someone else I never thought I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
