Liverpool Vows Not to Alter Attacking Style Despite Recent Slump, Says Slot

Arne Slot has stated that the club's hierarchy share his views regarding the team's slump and he refuses to compromise their attacking style in pursuit of a turnaround. The manager conceded that six losses in seven outings was below standard ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.

Growing Expectations Throughout Challenging Phase

Slot accepted the expectations were high before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he maintained that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the team's proprietors or management structure following a significant spending of almost £450m.

"Our views align," stated Slot, whose team next week face Real Madrid in the continental tournament and travel to the Citizens in the domestic competition.

Squad Quality Remains Unquestioned

Liverpool's manager thinks his team "boast a remarkable roster if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He noted that the summer investment in players such as the attacking midfielder and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against the Birmingham club through fitness issues, had left the club "in an excellent position for the short-term future and the years to come".

Gelling Difficulties

When pressed on why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm coming up with excuses. I can identify five or six reasons why we are underperforming or suffering defeats as we do but, as I always emphasize, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • Regardless of whether I could list 200 excuses
  • When you are Liverpool you must avoid losses
  • In truth six defeats in seven games

Defensive Numbers

Only the Lancashire club (21) have faced more big chances from regular play this season than Liverpool (nineteen). The table-toppers, Arsenal, have faced two. Yet the manager disputes the defense has been too vulnerable and claims there is no basis to compromise forward-thinking approach for a cautious system after ten matches without a goalless performance.

"In my view we're not giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to change our playing style completely but we must improve in preventing goals," he declared.

Particular Cases

"When facing United, how many opportunities did we allow? When playing Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we barely allowed a effort at our net. In every match we have competed in we haven't conceded a numerous openings. Definitely not. We do allow a slightly more than last season but that stems from us being 1-0 down so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't think that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our issue is we are unable to finish the opportunities we generate."
