The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.

In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
